Volunteer Program
Volunteers make the difference at WMCA!
There are many different opportunities for volunteers to serve within our hospital such as:

Patient visitation/delivery of flowers and mail to patient rooms
-
Greeting visitors and providing patient information at hospital information desks
-
Escorting patients and guests around the hospital; directional assistance
-
Clerical and support services in administrative or non-patient care departments
-
Running errands and providing non-clnical assistance in specific departments such as:
Requirements:
1. Be at least 15 years of age (exceptions on a case-by-case basis). There is no upper age limit.
2. Complete any immunizations or screenings as required and comply with the hospital’s policies regarding pre-placement and annual tuberculosis screening.
3. Complete re-orientation on an annual basis if volunteer has been here for more than a year’s period (consists of a quiz).
4. Must be able to communicate as described in assigned service description.
5. Junior volunteers (under the age of 18) must have parental consent forms on file.
Orientation is provided to all Volunteers
1. All volunteers are required to attend a two-hour orientation.
a. Topics covered include introduction to the volunteer staff; a generic film entitled “Only You - The Hospital Volunteer”; description of the auxiliary program; structure of the governing board; good grooming; social events; junior and collegiate programs; history of the hospital; corporate structure; overview of services performed by volunteers; infection control strategies, including a film entitled “ Hide and Seek,” isolation, handwashing techniques and standard precautions; code safety; reporting of incidents and injuries; body mechanics; wheelchair safety; ethics; confidentiality; harassment; and nursing functions.
b. An initial assignment is made, and an appointment with a supervisor/trainer is arranged.
c. Junior volunteers (under the age of 18) must have parental consent forms on file.
Training
Volunteers are supervised until they feel comfortable with their assignments.
